Returning Home: Why It’s Okay to Step Away (and Start Again)
In the stillness, life gently rearranges itself. — Unknown
Dear Gentle Soul:
There’s a quiet kind of courage in pressing pause.
Lately, I’ve been reminded that even the things we love — the projects, the passions, the creative spaces that fill us up — sometimes need a little space, a pause, and a reset. Over the past few weeks, I stepped away from my blog to focus on other projects that had been calling for my attention. And while I completed those, which I’ll be sharing with you soon, I found myself missing the quiet introspection and creativity that writing here always brings — the kind that feels less like creating content and more like coming home to myself.
As I began to refocus my attention on The Soulful Cottage, I let my days unfold without pressure. I lingered a little longer over my morning coffee, watching the sunlight shift across the floor or listening to the raindrops tap softly against the window. And in that stillness, I realized something important: stepping away isn’t failure — it’s often a necessity. A necessity for gaining a fresh perspective, rekindling creativity, and renewing faith.
Faith that the words will return.
Faith that rest is a sacred part of the rhythm.
Faith that when we come back, we’ll come back fuller, softer, and more aligned.
The Art of the Gentle Reset
Sometimes, we all need a reset — a breath between what was and what’s next. It doesn’t have to be dramatic. It might be an afternoon walk without your phone, an hour with a favorite book, or a weekend where you choose silence over scrolling.
Rest allows renewal. It gives creativity room to unfold again.
And when we return — whether to a blank page, a kitchen counter, or a project that’s been patiently waiting — we bring with us a fresh outlook and quiet strength.
A Little Soulful Practice
If you’ve been moving at full speed, here’s a gentle reset ritual to try today:
Pause. Take five slow breaths. Feel your shoulders lower.
Reflect. Ask yourself: What’s one thing I’ve been rushing through lately?
Restore. Do one small thing that nourishes you — a walk, a warm drink, a prayer, or simply sitting in stillness.
You don’t have to do everything at once. Just begin again — softly, slowly.
From My Heart
So here I am — back at The Soulful Cottage, ready to write, share, and reconnect.
If you’ve found yourself stepping away from something lately, know this: you’re not behind. You’re right on track. Sometimes the best way to move forward is to pause long enough to breathe, reset, and let your soul catch up.
Welcome home — to yourself, to your creativity, and to the spaces that make you feel most alive.
Warmly,
Beth
